Ok so you know how there's like a basquillion and one ways to use a mason jar floating around on Etsy and pinterest and whatnot? Well that's all well and good, and don't get me wrong....I loves me a good mason jar spice rack chalkboard DIY as much as the next girl.
That being said I have a special place in my heart for the awesome stuff people do with vintage suitcases. The vintage suitcase DIY is the hipster wet dream and I my friends am not immune to it's siren call.
You know it. You've been there. Digging around through some pile of old scarves and non-functioning electric blankets when some weathered old suitcase calls out to you from under a pile of 80's samsonite "Take me home! Love me! Give me new life!". How can you just walk away!?
I myself have been piecing together home decorating ideas for a while and think some of these clever creations might just find their way into my home.
1. Suitcase as table
Easy peasy lemon squeasy! A handful of table legs from a craft store, a power drill and an old case all come together in an afternoons work to create a cute as pie side/coffee table with the added bonus of having storage capacity for stuff like blankies :)
Follow this awesome step by step tutorial on Korrine Wojcik's blog for the step by step how to!
2. Suitcase as Medicine Cabinet
Say What!? Blake Sloane you craaaazyyy boooyyy!
This is such a neat idea for upcycling/recycling/whateveryoucallingit a suitcase.
Pop a mirror onto the front, chuck in some shelves and chuck it on the wall et voila! You just jazzed the crap out of your powder room my friend!
Check out Blake's Website for all sorts of cool ideas of things to do with old stuff you find.
3. Suitcase as Pupet Theatre
Ok well this is just too adorable for all sorts of crazy reasons!
1. Because, how clever is that to come up with?
2. Keeps all the puppet stuff in one spot!
3. Getting kids to use puppets and imaginations is way more awesome than sticking them in front of the TV all day! Go oldschool yo!
Melissa over at Mellysews.com gives you the step by step how to for this super fun activity for the littlest vintage suitcase makeover lovers among us.
4. Suitcase as Upright Bass
This one is a little trickier. And by a little trickier I mean a lot trickier!
This isn't your grandma's DIY folks!
The ever creative talent behind Daniyel.com shows you how to make an old suitcase into an amazing electric upright bass. The principle of the cigar box ukulele is much the same, this is just on a far grander scale.
5. Suitcase as Planter Box
Now sometimes an old suitcase is just too beat up to really be useful as a table or falling apart at the seams a bit too much to be turned into an instrument and that's when it's a great time to pop on over to the good ole folks over at the Peaceful Valley Farm Blog and check out the many different sorts of gardens you could make using old work out things. Personally I do not have a green thumb in the slightest so I will not be attempting to grow things in a suitcase or anywhere else for that matter...but you know, you could give it a go if you are braver than I
Well there you go folks...these are my top 5 fav's for the moment but there about a thousand other ways you could use these old beauties and bring them back to life.
